For example, in the past two years, Europe has gone through many changes. I thought it would be important for children to learn how the continent looks today: the borders of the countries, the surrounding seas, and their unique identities. So I designed a new placemat that shows the map of Europe together with the flags of its countries, including the European Union flag.

I started by opening my previous high-quality, vector world map file in Adobe Illustrator and focused on Europe. After thorough fact-checking and proofreading, the placemat was sent to the print house.

Printing and Encapsulation Process

The placemat is printed on premium 300g paper, using a double-sided printing process. Each placemat goes through two rounds – first one side is printed, then the sheet is carefully fed back to print the other side.

After printing, each placemat continues to the encapsulation (thick lamination) stage.
Here, every single placemat is laminated one by one, individually, ensuring perfect accuracy, consistent coverage, and long-lasting durability for daily use.
